How to Reformat a Sony VAIO
1. Back up your files to an external hard drive or a flash drive before you reformat the hard drive. Reformatting your hard drive will erase all of your data.
2. Disconnect your Sony VAIO from any networks that it is currently attached to. Unplug the Ethernet cable and any USB cables going into the computer. Turn off the wireless adapter to your computer.
3. Put your Windows 7 installation disc into the Sony VAIO. Restart the computer and use the arrow keys to scroll down to the installation disc when the boot menu comes on the screen. Press the 'Enter' key.
4. Wait for the Windows setup to begin. Hit the 'Enter' key to choose 'Set Up' when you are asked if you want to set up the system or repair it. You will then enter the set-up section.
5. Press 'F8' to accept the user agreement when prompted. Scroll down to the 'C:' partition in the partition screen and press the 'D' key to delete it from the computer. Press 'Enter' to install Windows 7 onto an 'Unpartitioned Space.'
6. Choose the 'NTFS' format in the next window. Allow the computer to start the set-up process.
7. Set your administrator password when prompted on the screen. Enter your password into the fields and press 'OK.' Allow the set-up process to finish your installation. Copy the data saved on your external drive back onto the Sony VAIO.
