1. Click 'Start' and type 'CMD' in the search bar. Click 'Cmd.exe' when it appears in the list of results. This opens a command prompt window.
2. Type 'chkdsk c: /r' replacing 'c' with the drive letter you wish to check. Click 'Enter.' The command prompt will display a message indicating that you will need to schedule the check for your next restart. Click 'Y' and press 'Enter' to schedule the check.
3. Click 'Start,' click the arrow next to 'Shut down' and select 'Restart.' The disk check will run when your computer boots Windows.
