How to Make Free iPhone Ringtones in Windows 7

1. Launch iTunes and open the song you would like to turn into a ringtone.
2. Press the 'Play' button to listen to the song. Use the timer bar at the top of the window to determine the beginning and end times of the portion of the song you want to use. This portion should be no longer than 30 seconds. Note the times.
3. Right-click on the song and select 'Get Info.'
4. Click on the 'Options' tab. Change the 'Start Time' and 'Stop Time' text boxes to the times you noted to select the desired portion of the song. Click 'OK.' This will set the song to only play the portion you selected.
5. Listen to the song again to ensure that you entered the correct times. Adjust the start and stop times if necessary.
6. Click the 'Advanced' menu and then click 'Create AAC Version.' This will create a second version of your chosen song, matching your selected length of time.
7. Right-click on the original song and select 'Get Info.' Click on the 'Options' tab and remove the check marks from the check boxes found beside 'Start Time' and 'Stop Time' to return the song to playing in full.
8. Right-click on the entry for the copied song and select 'Show in Windows Explorer.' Right-click on the highlighted file and select 'Rename.'
9. Shorten the name of the file to two or three words and change the file extension from '.m4a' to '.m4r' to allow iTunes to recognize it as a ringtone. Note the file's location.
10. Close the Windows Explorer window and switch back to iTunes. Right-click on the entry for the copied song and select 'Delete.'
11. Click on the 'File' menu and select 'Add File to Library.' Navigate to the location of the ringtone file you created and double-click it to add it to the iTunes ringtone library.
12. Connect your iPhone to your computer and sync it using the iPhone's USB cable. Your custom ringtone should now be available for use on your iPhone.
