How to Create an SCCM Windows 7 Collection
1. Launch the Configuration Manager Console. Find a shortcut to that component in the 'System Center Configuration Manager' folder inside your Start menu.
2. Right-click 'Collections' in the left pane and select 'New Collection.'
3. Type 'Windows 7 Computers' or another appropriate name in the 'Name' field. Click 'Next.'
4. Click the 'Dynamic rule' icon to create a new query rule that will help the program identify all Windows 7 computers. The icon looks like an orange rectangle.
5. Select 'Edit Query Statement' and click 'Show Query Language.'
6. Type or copy and paste the following query in the box:select SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceType,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceID,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Name,SMS_R_SYSTEM.SMSUniqueIdentifier,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceDomainORWorkgroup,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Client from sms_r_system where OperatingSystemNameandVersion like '%Workstation 6.1%'
7. Click 'OK' twice and select 'Finish.' You can now find your new collection under the 'Collections' category in the left pane.
