2. Navigate the cursor arrow over to the right-hand column. Highlight 'Help and Support'and left click. This option should be the third choice up from the bottom of the list.
3. Locate the choice on the page that says 'System Restore' and left click on the option.
4. Click the option 'Restore My Computer to an Earlier Time.' On the next screen, choose the date to revert the system back, too.
5. Verify that the computer has reverted to the previous version. If not, try Steps 1 to 7 in Section 2.
Browse the Old Index Files
6. Click on the 'Start' button in the lower left-hand corner of the computer screen. In the window that pops up, highlight and click on 'Search' in the right-hand column.
7. Select the option 'All files and folders' from the search list. It will be the third choice from the top.
8. Enter 'index.dat' in the first text box on the new screen. The label above the text box states, 'All or part of the file name:'
9. Tap the double arrows to the right of the words 'More advance options.' Make sure there are check marks in the boxes for 'Search system folders,' 'Search hidden files and folders' and 'Search subfolders.' Click the 'Search' button. A list of files will appear in the window on the right side of the box.
10. Minimize the results window by clicking on the box in the upper right-hand corner of the window that looks like an underscore.
11. Open a program that can read index.dat files like Super WinSpy. It may be necessary to use a search engine to locate software that can perform this task. Once the program is installed, start it and read the index.dat files.
12. Locate the desired history and restore by using the appropriate buttons in the reader program.
