How to Send a Text Message to Another User on a Windows Network


Enable Remote RPC on All Computers That Will Receive Messages
1. Click the 'Start' button on the Windows 7 computer to which you wish to send a message and click the 'Search' box; type 'regedit' in the 'Search' box. Tap the 'Enter' key and the 'Registry Editor' window will appear.
2. Navigate to the 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server' directory in the left pane of the 'Registry Editor' window.
3. Double-click the 'AllowRemoteRPC' key in the right pane. Change the number in the 'Value data' box of the window that appears to '1,' and click the 'OK' button. Close the 'Registry Editor' window.

4. Click the 'Start' button on the Windows 7 taskbar and click the 'Search' box. Type 'cmd' in the 'Search' box and tap the 'Enter' key. The command line window will appear.
5. Type 'msg /server:computername accountname 'your message here'' except replace 'computername' with the Windows computer name of the computer to which you are sending the message, replace 'accountname' with the name of the Windows account to which the message is directed. Replace 'your message here' with the message you wish to send.
6. Tap the 'Enter' key to send the message.
