How to Delete a File Extension in Windows 7


1. Access the Start menu and click 'Documents' on the right of the menu.
2. Press 'Alt'+'T' on your keyboard to open the 'Tools' menu, then click 'Folder Options.'
3. Click 'View' to open the configuration for folder views.
4. Remove the check mark to the left of 'Hide extensions for known file types.'
5. Open the folder containing the file with an extension you want to delete.
6. Right-click the file, then click 'Rename.'
7. Highlight the text including the 'period' at the end of the file name. For example, highlight '.txt' in 'File.txt'.
8. Press 'Backspace' on your keyboard, then press 'Enter.' The file extension is now removed.
