How to Fix a USB in Windows 7

1. Click on the 'Start' menu and then click 'Run.' Type 'Devmgmt.msc' into the open box and then press 'OK' to open Device Manager.
2. Right-click on the computer and click 'Scan.'
3. Press the expand button on the top-right corner to expand 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers.' A window will pop up that lists the USB ports on your computer. It will reveal which ones are working properly and which ones are not recognized.
4. Right-click on the USB drive that isn't recognized or not working properly, and select 'Power Management.' Click on the box -- clearing the check mark next to 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.'
5. Click 'OK.'
6. Click 'Scan.' Windows will scan your computer again, scanning for changes or other system issues. During this process, it will fix the USB that isn't recognized or working properly.
7. Restart your computer.
