How to Automatically Shut Down My Computer With Windows XP
1. Click 'Start,' 'All Programs,' 'Accessories,' 'System Tools' and 'Scheduled Tasks.'
2. Double-click 'Add Scheduled Task' in the Scheduled Tasks window.
3. Click 'Next.'
4. Click 'Browse.'
5. Browse to the 'C:\Windows\system32' directory and double-click the 'shutdown.exe' or 'shutdown' program.
6. Select how often you want the computer to automatically shut down by clicking 'Daily,' 'Weekly,' 'Monthly' or 'One Time Only' and clicking 'Next.'
7. Type the time you want the computer to automatically shut down at in the 'Start Time' box and click 'Next.'
8. Type your administrator password into the 'Enter the Password' and 'Confirm Password' boxes and click 'Next.'
9. Click 'Finish.'
10. Right-click the 'shutdown' task and click 'Properties.'
11. Type a space and '-s -f' at the end of the Run box. The box should read 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\shutdown.exe -s -f.'
12. Add a space and type '-t ##' at the end of the Run box if you want a warning dialog to appear, replacing '##' with a number of seconds. For example, if you want to provide a 60-second warning before shutdown occurs so users can save their work and close their applications, the Run dialog should contain 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\shutdown.exe -s -f -t 60.'
13. Click 'OK.'
