How to Install Windows XP to a New Laptop Hard Drive

1. Insert the Windows XP disc into the computer's disc drive and restart the computer. Press any key as the computer boots up to load the installation disc.
2. Press Enter to get past the 'Welcome' screen. Press 'F8' to accept the license agreement terms.
3. Select the option to download the latest updates if you have a direct, wired Internet connection. If you typically connect via wireless, you can install the updates later after the wireless connection is configured post-installation.
4. Select the new hard drive as the installation destination when given the choice.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions to finish the installation. Enter the Windows product key (located on the XP packaging or on the laptop) when prompted. Enter your time zone and create a computer name when prompted. When the installation is complete, the computer will reboot and launch into Windows XP.
