How to Find Out if Your HP Computer Windows Version is 32
Windows 7 and Windows Vista
1. Click the 'Start' icon then right-click 'Computer.'
2. Click 'Properties.' The System window will be displayed on your screen and will list the specifications for your HP computer.
3. Scroll down the System window until you find System Type. To the right of System Type it will either read '32-bit Operating System' or '64-bit Operating System.'
Windows XP
4. Click 'Start,' then right-click 'My Computer.'
5. Click 'Properties.' The System Properties window will be displayed on your screen.
6. Select the 'General' tab. If you are using a 64-bit version of Windows XP, it will say 'x64 Edition' beneath System. If it does not say 'x64 Edition,' you are using a 32-bit version of the Windows XP operating system.
If Your Computer Does Not Turn On
7. Click the 'HP Support' link provided in the Resources section to access the HP Support web page.
8. Select 'See support and troubleshooting information' beneath Step 1, then enter your product name and number in Step 2. The product name and number are located to the right of 'Product' on the white HP service tag on the side of your desktop computer or the bottom of your HP laptop computer. Enter a space, then type in 'specification.' Click 'Next.'
9. Click the model of your HP computer in the list of results to open up the product specifications page for your computer. Scroll down the page that opens up until you reach 'Software Specifications.' Within that section, locate 'Operating System.' To the right of 'Operating System,' it will state whether your operating system is 32-bit or 64-bit (for example, Windows XP Professional [32-bit]).
