The Specs for an HP nw8440
Processor
The processor -- or central processing unit -- of the HP Compaq nw8440 was an Intel Core Duo or its immediate predecessor, the Intel Core 2 Duo. The 'Duo' suffix stands for their status as dual-core processors, which means that they consist of two processing units. There were seven Intel Core and Core 2 Duo chips available for the nw8440, with a processing speed range of 1.83 gigahertz to 2.33 GHz. All CPUs, however, connected to the computer's motherboard via the front-side bus for data transfer at a rate of 667 megahertz. The processor was a component of the Mobile Intel 945PM Express chipset.
Memory and Hard Drive
The pre-installed memory of the HP Compaq nw8440 was 512 megabytes, 1 gigabyte or 2 GB with a read access speed of 533 MHz or 667 MHz. The memory was upgradable to 4 GB, and it was based on the second-generational synchronous dynamic random access memory standard (DDR2 SDRAM). The Serial Advanced Technology Attachment-connected hard drive offered 60, 80, 100 and 120 GB of storage space, with rotational speed choices of 5,400 and 7,200 revolutions per minute.
Audio, Video/Graphics and Networking
The HP Compaq nw8440's motherboard-integrated high-definition audio driver was compatible with 16-bit Sound Blaster Pro processing. The ATI Mobility FireGL V5200 graphics controller -- also integrated on the motherboard -- used up to 256 MB of the computer's system memory for its video capabilities and supported Microsoft DirectX 9 for PC gaming. Regarding networking, HP included a 56-kilobits per second data modem, 1-gigabit Ethernet card, and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0 wireless technology.
Product Dimensions, External Interfaces and Power
With a weight of 5.9 lbs. and a 102-key keyboard, the HP Compaq nw8440 measured 14.1 inches in width, 10.2 inches in depth and 1.1 inches in height. On the computer -- in addition to the RJ-11 and RJ-45 connectors for the modem and Ethernet -- HP provided ports such as three USB 2.0 inputs, S-video output, external monitor connector, IEEE-1394 port and two audio jacks. The laptop PC came with a 90-watt AC power adapter with a 6-foot cord and an 8-cell rechargeable Lithium-ion battery.
