How to Repair Windows 98 for Free
1. Write down the specific errors you see on your computer screen. When you view an error on your computer, each message will most likely tell you the particular piece of software responsible for the issue. For example, if your computer lets you know that you have a runtime error, this means one or more of the programs on your computer are not compatible with each other. However, you just need to go to your 'Start' menu and choose 'Settings' to know which programs do not work well together. Then, go to your computer 'Control Panel' and click your mouse twice on the words 'Add or Remove Programs.' Open up the list of programs you see, click every item and then press 'Add/Remove.' Select 'Yes' to complete this process.
2. Run your Disk Defragmenter. This program allows you to fix files that Windows has a tough time finding because they are all spread out on your operating system. Go to the 'Start' menu, then hit 'Programs,' 'Accessories,' 'System Tools' and finally click 'Disk Defragmenter.' Choose the particular drive with which you want to work. Click 'Defragment' and hit 'Enter.'
3. Install the latest Windows updates. Since you own an older version of Microsoft Windows, the age of your operating system may cause errors every now and then. Click 'Start' and go to 'Settings.' Press the words 'Windows Update.' Adhere to the instructions that you see appear on your computer screen to finish the update process. Reboot your laptop or desktop to make the changes permanent.
