How to Get Rid of a Registry Error
1. Download and install a free registry-cleaner program such as CCleaner or Eusing Registry Cleaner.
2. Launch the program after it has installed and click the 'Registry' button. Place a check on all the options under 'Registry integrity' to increase the chances of locating and solving errors.
3. Click 'Scan for issues.' Your program will scan the registry for missing or damaged ActiveX components necessary for Web browser function. It will also locate damaged components and leftover entries for uninstalled programs. These entries are some of the major causes of registry errors.
4. Click 'Fix selected issues' when the scan is complete and the problem-causing files have been detected. Click 'Yes' to back up the registry when prompted to.
5. Click 'Fix selected issues' when the backup is complete, and click 'OK' to clean the registry and remove error-causing files.
6. Uninstall the error-causing program if the registry is still running into problems. If the program is damaged or corrupt, it is important to uninstall it before reinstalling a fresh, error-free copy. To uninstall the program, click the Windows 'Start' button and click the 'Control Panel.'
7. Double-click 'Add or remove programs' or 'Uninstall a program' (Windows Vista users) to open the programs window. Click the program that is causing errors and click 'Remove/Uninstall' to uninstall it from your computer.
8. Run the registry cleaner again to remove any entries that have been left over by the error-causing program. Once you remove these entries, it is safe for you install a fresh copy of the program.
9. Reinstall a fresh and error-free copy of the program using either the installation disc or an online source if you previously downloaded and installed it from the Internet.
10. Launch your antivirus program and click the 'Update' button to install the latest virus and spyware updates. Perform a full system scan and delete all detected malicious files. Many malicious files (e.g., Trojans, spyware) make their way to the registry and cause errors and should be deleted. If you do not have an antivirus program, download a free program such as AVG.
11. Launch the program after it has installed and click the 'Update' button on the left panel to install the latest virus and spyware updates. Click 'Full system scan' and delete all the detected malicious files.
