How to Clean Install Windows XP on a Dell

Performing a Windows XP Clean Install on a Dell
1. Copy all photos, files, programs and data that you wish to save from your computer to blank CDs. The clean install process will erase all the programs you have installed on your hard drive.
2. Turn off your Dell and insert the Windows XP installation CD. Restart the computer and the Windows XP installation wizard will appear on the screen.
3. Wait for the CD to start the Installation Wizard. If the CD does not start automatically, click on 'Start,' then 'My Computer.' Right click on the CD drive and hit 'Play.' The installation wizard should now begin.
4. Select the option to perform a 'clean install' of Windows XP (ignore the option to 'restore').
5. Confirm that you want to reinstall Windows XP. You will be asked if you want to use a FAT or NTFS file system on your install. Select NTFS.
6. Enter the Windows XP product code when asked. This can be found on the label on the outside of your computer, or on the packaging of your Windows XP disc. Select 'Enter' to continue.
7. Allow the computer to complete the reinstallation. Do not turn the computer's power on or off during the reinstallation process. When the computer reboots itself, you will be asked to accept the End User License Agreement. Select 'Yes' and then 'Finish.'
8. Immediately reinstall your anti-virus program, to prevent any possible virus attacks.
9. Go to the Microsoft website to search for any upgrades that your Windows XP software might need.
