Causes of a Corrupted Comctl32.Dll
Error While Saving or Updating
The most common cause for file corruption is experiencing an error while attempting to save a file or install an update. Errors like this occur if an electrical surge rushes through your computer, if the power goes out or if you shut off your computer while the file is being saved. The comctl32.dll file is linked to many applications on your computer. If an error happens while a file linked to one of those applications is being saved or updated, it could corrupt the comctl32.dll file.
Hardware Failure
Hardware failure can corrupt files on your computer. The hardware on your computer, such as the keyboard, disc drive, mouse and monitor, is controlled by software. If the software doesn’t function properly, neither will the device to which it is connected and vice versa. If a piece of hardware fails, the software needed to run it can become corrupted.
Virus and Spyware
Computer viruses and spyware eat away at the structure of your computer’s files. Viruses and spyware are downloaded via the Internet and are often undetected at first. They run in the background and disrupt the functionality of your computer by changing settings, preventing files from loading and altering the engineering of a file, rendering it unusable. Dynamic link library files, such as comctl32.dll, contain subroutines which are loaded and used by running programs. Viruses and spyware can corrupt .dll files, making the programs that rely on them function incorrectly.
Registry Error
A computer registry is the central nervous system of a computer. It is the main pipeline of information that keeps a computer running properly. Every time you add or delete software, the registry changes. As you alter the configuration of software on your computer, files and settings used by different programs may clash and create confusion in the registry. If the registry isn’t properly configured, files to which it is attached, including comctl32.dll, may be corrupted. Deleting important registry files or adding unnecessary files to the registry may lead to a registry error.
