What is an i386 Ntkrnlmp.Exe Error?

Cause
Microsoft has identified two possible causes for the ntkrnlmp.exe error message. If your computer's Basic Input Output System (BIOS) settings are incorrect, it might result in the error during Windows installation. The other cause is if your RAM memory installed is faulty.
Operating Systems Affected
The ntkrnlmp.exe error affects the following Microsoft Windows operating system versions: XP Professional, XP Home, Server 2003 Standard (32-bit), Server 2003 Enterprise (32-bit), Server 2003 Datacenter (32-bit), Small Business Server 2003 Premium, Small Business Server 2003 Standard and 2000 Professional.
Troubleshooting the BIOS cause
Microsoft recommends that you reset your BIOS or your CMOS settings to the original factory defaults. When your computer starts up, a screen will flash, detailing how to enter the BIOS. This is usually achieved by pressing \'F1,\' \'Esc\' or \'Del.\' Once you have entered the BIOS, you should be able to easily find the option to \'restore to factory defaults.\' If you cannot find it, consult your motherboard's user manual.
Upgrading the BIOS
If restoring the BIOS to default factory settings doesn't fix the problem, you should try upgrading your BIOS. Using a non-faulty computer, go to your motherboard manufacturer's website. In the support section for your motherboard there will be a downloads section. Download the latest BIOS, then consult your motherboard documentation for instruction on how to upgrade your BIOS.
Troubleshooting Faulty RAM
Turn off your computer and remove the side of the computer case. Then remove the Random Access Memory (RAM) module from your computer's motherboard. Replace it with another RAM module (making sure that you still meet minimum system requirements). If you need help accessing the RAM module, your motherboard manual will feature multiple diagrams locating the modules on your motherboard.
