Installation Driver for a Canon BJC 1000

Downloads
Canon Support lists driver downloads for six versions of Microsoft Windows. These drivers aren't exactly installation files; rather, these are required to manually install the printer on any operating system. To find a driver that matches your operating system, browse support.canon.com to locate the BJC 1000, and then choose your operating system and download the self-unpacking driver file. If you run a version of Windows later than XP, download the XP file.
Automatic Installation
You may not even need a driver to install the BJC 1000 on newer computers. Windows Vista and Windows 7 have built-in drivers for most devices and connect to the Internet to find drivers for devices not in the OS database. You can plug the BCJ 1000 into your computer and wait for Windows to detect it, and then follow the prompts on screen to try the automatic installation procedure.
Using Older Drivers
If you have an older driver for a device that Windows can't recognize, you can use Windows to force the association. Canon doesn't support the BJC 1000 on Vista or Windows 7, but that doesn't necessarily mean it won't work. Click 'Start' and type 'add' into the search bar, and then click 'Add a Device' to load the add new hardware wizard. Choose 'Printer' and then select 'Canon.' Click 'Browse' to manually locate the driver you downloaded from the Canon site. You'll see a few warnings that the device might not be supported, but can ignore these and try printing anyway.
User Manual
When setting up the printer on any computer you may encounter errors related to the printer -- not to the software. Since this printer is quite old, you may not find up-to-date support information online, but the original user manual -- which is still available through support.canon.com -- has a troubleshooting section that will help you overcome basic issues with the BJC 1000.
