How to Update Windows Defender Offline

1. Download the latest version of Windows Defender before going offline. In the links on the right side of the page click on 'Latest Updates.'
2. Find the Windows version active on the computer by right-clicking on the 'My Computer' icon on the computer desktop. Select the option labeled 'Properties.' Click on the 'General' tab located at the top of the Properties window. Locate the three sections labeled 'System,' 'Registered to' and 'Computer.' Look in the 'System' section and note the operating system. If the operating system says '64 Edition' somewhere in the name, then the operating system is a 64-bit system; if not, the operating system is a 32-bit system.
3. Navigate to the open 'Windows Defender' download page and click on the link for the 32-bit version or the 64-bit version of Windows Defender based on the corresponding operating system installed on the computer. Click 'Save File' on the new window to save the file to the computer. In the 'Save As' dialogue box, select a location to save the file in the left pane. In the 'File Name' box located at the bottom of the window, type a name for the file. Click 'Save' to save the file in the designated location.
4. Remove the Internet connection and go offline by unplugging the Internet cord from the wall socket. Another way to go offline is to open the Internet Explorer, click on the 'File' menu and choose the option 'Work Offline.'
5. Install the Windows Defender update by opening the 'My Computer' icon on the desktop. Select the 'Local Disk' option and locate the saved file. Double-click the file. The installation process will begin. After the installation completes, click 'OK' and restart the computer to apply the changes. Once the computer comes back up, double-click on the Internet Explorer icon and click the 'File' menu to select 'Work Online' to re-establish an online status.
