How to Repair a Broken Windows XP 64 File System

1. Open the 'Start' menu and click on the 'Run' button. This will display a small text box on-screen.
2. Type 'cmd' in the text box and press 'Enter.' A DOS window containing a command prompt will appear.
3. Type 'chkdsk' and press 'Enter.' This will begin the automated Check Disk process, locating any bad areas of the hard drive's file system.
4. Type 'chkdsk /f' and press 'Enter' if bad sections are found. This will result in a repair of your hard drive's file system.
