How to Install a System Speaker Driver
1. Click on the 'Start' key at the lower right of the screen. Click on 'Sounds, Speech and Audio Devices.'
2. Click on 'Sounds and Audio Devices.' Click on the 'Hardware' tab.
3. Click on the name of the sound card. Click on 'Properties,' then 'Driver.' Click on 'Update Driver' to start the Windows search for driver updates.
4. Click 'Start,' then 'Run' in the Start menu. Enter 'dxdiag' in the Run menu field, and click 'OK.' This begins the process of searching for the name of the sound card and speaker drivers, if they are not known, and Windows cannot automatically update internally.
5. Click the 'Sound' tab in the small window that opens. Examine the 'Device' header. Underneath that, look at the 'Name' entry. Beneath 'Driver,' look for Provider.
6. Visit the sound card manufacturer's website, and download the appropriate drivers (and/or driver updates) for the sound card.
