How to Customize a Windows Desktop to Look Like a Mac OS

1. Download a Mac wallpaper. You can browse through hundreds of wallpapers that look like authentic Mac backgrounds. After you have downloaded and saved the file to disk, change the Windows desktop background from 'Control Panel.'
2. Remove application shortcut icons from the desktop. One of the most distinguishing features of a Mac desktop is its clean, clutter-free look. Clean up the Windows desktop by removing unnecessary items--deleting the icons will not delete the programs, and you can still load these applications from the Windows 'Start Menu.'
3. Download the Mac icon sets. There are many options to choose from, and you can browse through different icon sets before downloading the set you want for your computer. Specify where you want to save the file, and when the download completes, install the icon sets to change your folder, hard drive and application icons to look like they belong on a Mac.
4. Hide the taskbar at the bottom of the Windows desktop screen. Right click on the bar and select 'Properties' and then click on the box adjacent to 'Auto-Hide Taskbar' to activate the feature; look for a small check mark in the box after you click it. This feature will slide the taskbar down out of view when you move the cursor away. The bar reappears again if you bring the cursor near the bottom of the desktop screen.
5. Download and install the cursor set for the Mac, which will transform the appearance of the Windows mouse pointer. Install the cursor set from the downloaded file. Installation processes may vary depending on the type of cursor set; refer to the attached 'Readme' for simple instructions.
6. Get Mac's 'Dock Menu' for the Windows desktop. Download and install an application, such as Rocket Dock or RK Launcher, to get Mac's signature desktop look. Install the program by following the simple on-screen instructions. Once installed, you can customize the dock by adding or removing application shortcuts icons.
7. Install widgets. The most popular desktop widgets for Windows are available from Google and Yahoo!, and both offer hundreds of options to choose from. Browse through and download the widgets you want. Install the widgets to display them on your desktop.
8. Download and install Mac software that is compatible with Windows by following on-screen instructions. Popular Mac software for Windows includes iTunes for music, Safari for browsing the Internet, QuickTime for video playback, and Bonjour for networking. Restart the computer after downloading the programs. When you power up the computer, your desktop should look like a Mac.
