How to Acquire a License on Windows Media Player
1. Close Windows Media Player.
2. Click the Start Menu and click 'Run.' If the 'Run' icon is not located on your start menu, simultaneously press the Windows key and 'R' on your keyboard to launch the Run dialog box.
3. Type 'C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows' without quotes if you are using Windows Vista or higher. Press enter.
4. Right-click the folder titled 'DRM' and select the 'Rename' option.
5. Type 'DRMbackup.' Press enter.
6. Click the 'Start' menu and open Internet Explorer. If you are using Windows Vista or later, you must right-click the Internet Explorer icon and select 'Run as Administrator.' If prompted to do so, enter the computer's administrative password.
7. Visit the Security Component Upgrade site (see 'Resources') and click the 'Upgrade' button.
8. Close Internet Explorer once the Microsoft website indicates the upgrade process is complete.
9. Restart your computer to finalize the installation reset of the Windows Media Player DRM store.
10. Open Windows Media Player and wait while the software validates your new license information. This can take up to several minutes, depending on the speed of your Internet connection.
