Problems With Wininet.dll

Error Messages
Wininet.dll errors may be worded in various ways such as 'wininet.dll not found,' 'The file wininet.dll is missing' and 'Cannot find [path]\wininet.dll.' These errors may occur at various times: for example, when attempting to install or use a program, upon shutting down the computer and possibly during Windows installation itself.
Possible Causes
Errors can occur when the wininet.dll file has been corrupted or accidentally deleted from the operating system. The error messages warn of a potential hardware problem, registry problem or possibly the computer has been infected by a virus or spyware.
Quick Fix
Usually, the 'wininet.dll' error occurs because the file has been accidentally deleted. Do not replace this file with one found on the Internet because these files are often obsolete or may contain malware. Always obtain the file from the source directory on the Windows installation CD. But first, check the recycle bin if you suspect that you might have deleted the file recently. A quick fix is to simply restore the file from the recycle bin.
Scan for Viruses
Run an antivirus program to check your computer for viruses and spyware. It's possible that your wininet.dll file has been corrupted or modified by malware, causing it to cease functioning.
System Restore
Perform a system restore to undo any changes made on your computer recently such as program installations, updates and driver configurations. Often, a system restore is an effective way to remedy the problem with minimal hassle.
