Microchip ICD2 Install Procedures

Initial Installation
Prior to installing the actual program, ensure that the latest Microchip software is running. You can install an updated version of MPLAB IDE software using a CD-ROM or by downloading the software from the company's website. Do not run the MPLAB IDE program immediately after installation, and refrain from connecting USB or RS-232 cables prior to installation.
PC Communications
Configuring PC communications involves opening the control panel on the operating system and selecting a port. If there is no RS-232 cable available, then USB cable should be selected. The port settings tab will allow you to set the flow control to hardware and turn off FIFO buffers.
MPLAB IDE
Newly installed MPLAB IDE software must be properly configured in order to work well with ICD 2. In order to do this, set the communications port for MPLAB ICD 2 and select a port in the communication section of Debugger/Program settings. After doing so, select apply and choose a power target if desired. Selecting a power target is as simple as checking or un-checking a box.
