How to Use Telnet in Windows
Enable Telnet
1. Click the Start button. Select 'Control Panel' and click 'Programs.'
2. Click 'Turn Windows Features On or Off' under the Programs and Features heading.
3. Scroll down in the dialog box, click the check box next to 'Telnet Client.'
4. Click 'OK.'
Connect With Telnet
5. Click the Start button. Type 'Telnet' in the search box.
6. Type 'open' or 'o' at the command prompt, followed by the name, URL or IP address of the remote computer and optionally the port number to connect on:open address.com 22
open 205.747.107.4
open localcomputer 44
7. Type 'close' or 'c' followed by the name and optionally the port number to close a telnet connection:close address.com 22
close 205.747.107.4
close localcomputer 44
8. Type a question mark at the telnet command prompt to review the listing of available commands.
9. Type 'quit' or 'q' at the telnet command prompt to exit from telnet completely.
