How to Reset DRM for Windows Media Player 10
1. Open Windows Media Player 10 and click 'Tools' at the top of the screen. Click 'Manage Licenses' in the drop-down menu.
2. Click the 'Change' button in the License Management window and click 'Desktop' as the backup destination location. Click 'Back Up Now' to save the licenses to your desktop. Exit out of Windows Media Player.
3. Update your computer's hardware once the license backup is complete, according to the Microsoft site.
4. Double-click 'My Computer' on your desktop, click 'Tools' at the top of the screen and click 'Folder Options' from the drop-down menu. Click 'VIew' to display your folder preferences.
5. Click the circle next to 'Show hidden files and folders' and uncheck the box next to 'Hide protected operating system files' to view the DRM folder, as it is considered a system folder.
6. Open the Windows Media DRM folder. For Windows Vista, the folder is located in 'C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\DRM. In Windows Microsoft 2000 and XP, the folder is located in 'C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM. In Windows 98, the folder is located in 'C:\Windows\All Users\DRM' or in 'C:\Windows\DRM' if using WIndows ME, according to the official Microsoft site.
7. Highlight all of the licenses in the DRM folder, right-click the highlighted area and click 'Delete' on the pop-up menu.
8. Upgrade your Windows Media DRM components (see Resources for link) and open Windows Media Player 10. Click 'Tools' at the top of the program window, then click 'Manage Licenses' on the sub-menu.
9. Click the DRM folder located on your desktop in the License Management window and click 'Restore Now' to finalize the DRM resetting process.
