How to Repair NTFS in Windows XP
1. Place your Windows XP CD into your computer's CD-ROM drive and then restart your PC.
2. Hit any key on your keyboard when prompted to 'Press any key to boot from CD.'
3. Use the Recovery Console to fix the problem by pressing 'R.' This selects the option corresponding to the displayed message 'To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R.'
4. Enter the number for the installation you would like to log on to from the Recovery Console; the command prompt opens after you enter this number. Typically, this number is displayed before the question, 'Which Windows installation would you like to log onto?' Generally, '1' is the value displayed.
5. Enter each of the following commands and then hit 'Enter' after each one:cd \windows\system32\driversren ntfs.sys ntfs.oldcopy cd:\i386\ntfs.sys drive:\windows\system32\driversEach line is a different command. Therefore, only type one line at a time and then hit 'Enter' before going to the next command.
6. Remove your Windows XP CD and then type 'Quit.'
