How to Print to another Windows Computer
1.
First you have to make sure that both computers on the network are in the same Workgroup. Here's how you do that:Vista - Click the start menu > right click computer > click properties - There you will see on that page something like 'Workgroup: MSHOME' mshome would be the workgroup. If you need to change it click Change Settings on the right > click Change... at the bottom.XP - right click My Computer > click Properties. You should see your workgroup in that box, if you need to change it click Change...Restart your computer if needed.
2.
Now we can begin. The next step is to share the printer over the network. On the computer which the printer is connected navigate to the Control Panel > click Printers > right click the printer you wish to share and select properties. Click the tab at the top that says 'Sharing' and check the box for 'Share this printer'.
3. Now you need to download and install the printer driver on the computer which the printer is not connected. Simply pop the CD for the printer into the computer and install the driver. If you can do that skip to step 5. If you don't have the CD anymore or can't find it you'll need the model number of the printer; typically you can find this right on the printer. It might look something like C3100 or S485. Write down the brand and model number of the printer.
4.
On the computer which the printer is not connected, navigate to your printer's manufacturer's website, e.g. hp.com, canon.com, etc... Once you arrive, there's usually a Support for Drivers link to click on. From there you can search/browse for your printer and get links to download the appropriate driver. Download and install the driver for your printer.
5. It's time to add the printer. Navigate to Control Panel > Printers. Once there click the add printer button...For Vista - Just click 'Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer' and the rest should be automagical.XP - Click Add Printer > Next > select A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer > Next > Select Find a printer in the directory > Next > Browse for your printer and finish it up.
6. That printer should now show up as an option when you attempt to print something. If you want to set this printer as the default one simply navigate to Control Panel > Printers again, right click the printer and select Set as Default Printer. Happy printing! :)
