How to Determine Windows Security Patches Installed


Windows Vista or Windows 7
1. Log on to an administrator user account in Windows.
2. Click 'Start' in the left corner.
3. Open 'Control Panel' and click 'Uninstall a Program' under 'Programs.'
4. Click 'View Installed Updates' on the left panel.
5. Scroll down the list of Windows updates and find those named 'Security Update for Microsoft Windows.' Note that each update has a unique number--for example, KB941693. You can also use the 'Installed On' column to find the date on which a particular update was installed.
6. Find out detailed information about a particular security update in the Microsoft database by using the following link:
http://support.Microsoft.com/?kbid=958690This would give you information for update 'KB958690.' Use the unique six-digit number that follows the letters 'KB' to get detailed information on any other update.
Windows XP
7. Log on to an administrator user account in Windows.
8. Click 'Start' in the lower left-hand corner.
9. Select 'Control Panel' and click on 'Add or Remove Programs.'
10. Check the 'Show Updates' box.
11. Scroll down the list of Windows updates and find those named 'Security Update for Windows XP.' Note that each update has a unique number--for example, KB941693.
12. Check the date on which a particular update was installed next to the label 'Installed On.'
13. Find out detailed information about a particular security update in the Microsoft database by using the following link:
http://support.Microsoft.com/?kbid=958690This would give you information for update 'KB958690.' Use the unique six-digit number that follows the letters 'KB' to get detailed information on any other update.
