How to Clean Up a Computer with Vista

1.
Run disk cleanup. Disk cleanup will remove any temporary files such as Internet files, recycled files, Windows temporary files and unused files. Click the 'Start' button. Click 'All Programs,' 'Accessories,' 'System Tools' and 'Disk Cleanup.' Select which drive you want to clean up and press 'OK.' When the 'Disk Cleanup for' dialog box appears, select the items you want to remove and click 'OK.' Click 'Yes' in the 'Do you want to permanently delete these items' prompt box.
2.
Run disk defragmenter. Disk defragmenter speeds up the reading and writing time of the disk by moving all of the files closer to the beginning of the hard drive. Click 'All Programs,' 'Accessories,' 'System Tools' and 'Disk Defragmenter.' Select the drive you want to defrag. In the 'Disk Defragmenter' dialog box, click 'Defragment Now.'
3.
Run the error-checking utility. The error-checking utility will search for any sectors that have been damaged. Make sure all files and programs are closed. Open 'My Computer.' Right click on the hard drive and select 'Properties.' Select the 'Tools' tab. Press the 'Check Now' button in the error-checking box. Deselect 'Automatically fix file system errors' and select 'Scan for and Attempt recovery of bad sectors.' Press the 'Start' button.
