How Do I Get to Safe Mode on My HP Laptop?


Using the Advanced Boot Options
1. Close all programs on the HP laptop with the problem and click the Windows 'Start' button in the lower left-hand corner of the screen. Click the 'Restart' option to restart your computer.
2. Press the 'F8' button repeatedly before the Windows logo appears. This launches the Advanced Boot Options (Windows Vista and 7) or 'Advanced Options Menu (Windows XP).
3. Scroll down and select 'Safe Mode.' Press 'Enter.' If prompted, type your administrator password and click 'OK' to logon to Windows Safe Mode. If you did not create an administrator password when you initially setup your computer, you computer automatically logs on to Safe Mode when you press 'Enter.'
Using the System Configurations Utility
4. Click the Windows 'Start' button and click 'Run' (Windows XP) or 'Start Search' (Windows Vista and 7) In the open box, type 'msconfig' (Without quotes) and press 'Enter' to launch the System Configuration Utility.
5. Click the 'BOOT.INI' tab and check the 'SAFEBOOT' check-box. When asked if you prefer to restart the PC immediately, or Exit Without Restart, choose to restart the computer manually. When you restart your computer, it will automatically launch in Windows Safe Mode.
6. Click the Windows 'Start' button when you finish using Windows Safe Mode. Click 'Run' (Windows XP) or 'Start Search' (Windows Vista and 7) In the open box, type 'msconfig' (Without quotes) and press 'Enter' to launch the System Configuration Utility. Click the 'BOOT.INI' tab and select the 'Normal Startup' radio button. When prompted, restart your computer. Your HP laptop restarts in normal mode.
