How to Make Anchored Objects in InDesign
1. Open your InDesign document and locate the text beside which the graphic or sidebar should be positioned. Drag a ruler guide to just underneath the baseline of the text you intend to anchor the object to.
2. Position the object on the stage. It doesn't have to be aligned perfectly with the anchoring text. Cut it to the clipboard.
3. Insert the cursor at the beginning of the paragraph you will use for the anchor. Choose 'Insert' from the Object menu Anchored Object submenu. The 'Insert Anchored Object' dialog will appear.
4. Adjust the settings for your object. Set your reference points, choose which kind of object you wish to insert (text or graphic). Don't worry if you don't get them exactly right. Close the dialog.
5. Place your cursor in the new empty frame. Paste the object from the clipboard into the anchored frame.
6. Tweak the object using the guide to help align the text. Choose 'Options' from the Anchored Object submenu and adjust the reference points and offsets. Check the 'Preview' box to see the changes before you close the dialog.
