What Is the Dumprep EXE?
Significance
Windows does not consider dumprep.exe an essential program, but it is not classified as spyware or malware, according to the website What-is-EXE. Most operating systems put dumprep.exe in the folder 'c:\windows\system32\dumprep.'
Effects
On some systems, dumprep.exe causes the entire system to run poorly, usually due to third-party hardware or problems with the system registry, according to Microsoft.
Prevention/Solution
To disable dumprep.exe, run 'msconfig' from a command prompt, click the Startup tab, clear the checkbox for dumprep 0 -k or dumprep 0 -u and then restart your system, according to Microsoft. When modifying system settings, always create a restore point.
Warning
Spyware programs may name themselves in a similar manner to dumprep.exe. If you see a misspelling of 'dumprep,' it is likely a spyware program.
