How to Set Up Earthlink Email in Outlook
1. Open the Microsoft Outlook program on the computer you will use to check the Earthlink email.
2. Select the 'Tools' option from the list of menu items at the top of the Outlook window.
3. Scan down the list of tools to find 'Email Accounts,' and click this tool. The Outlook email wizard should start at this point.
4. Click the white circle next to 'Add a new email account,' and then click the 'Next' button.
5. Choose the 'POP3' option for the type of email account you have by clicking the white circle beside 'POP3.' Click the 'Next' button at the bottom of the window.
6. Fill out the 'User Information' for your Earthlink account. Next to 'Your Name,' type the name you want people to see when they receive emails from you. Type your full email address (email_account_name@earthlink.net) in the box next to 'Email Address.'
7. Setup your 'Server Information' to tell Outlook where to look for your account. Next to 'Incoming mail server (POP3),' type 'pop.earthlink.net' in the box. Next to 'Outgoing mail server (SMTP),' type 'smtpauth.earthlink.net' in the white boxes.
8. Provide the 'Logon Information' you use to access your Earthlink email account. In the box next to 'User Name,' type in your full email address. Type in your Earthlink account password in the box under your email address.
9. Choose to set up Outlook to check your Earthlink email account automatically by clicking the small white box next to 'Remember Password.' You will be required to enter your password every time you check the Earthlink account if you don't check the 'Remember Password' box.
10. Select 'More Settings' in the lower right corner of the wizard window.
11. Add additional settings to your outgoing email by clicking the 'Outgoing Server' tab at the top of the window. Click the box next to 'My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication.' Click the circle next to 'Log on using,' and then enter your full email address beside 'User Name' and Earthlink account password beside 'Password.' Click the box next to 'Remember Password' and then click 'OK.'
12. Look for the 'Advanced' tab at the top of the exposed window and click it.
13. Set the 'Outgoing server (SMTP)' to '587' if a different number is in the box. Click the box and type the number.
14. Check the connectivity of Outlook with Earthlink by clicking the 'Test Account Settings' button under 'Test Settings.' If there is a problem, review all of the information in the window to make sure it is free of typos. Find out whether Earthlink has changed server settings for your account by entering your email address at its Support Center and clicking the 'Submit' button (see Resources below).
15. End the setup process by clicking the 'Next' button, and then the 'Finish' button.
