How to Install the Pentax Optio 33L

1. Turn on your computer and insert the Pentax CD-ROM, labeled S-SW8. The program should auto-launch and display an installer screen. If it doesn't, browse to the CD using Windows Explorer and double-click 'setup.exe' to begin the installation. Choose a language preference to continue.
2. Click on 'USB Driver.' Make sure your camera is not connected to the PC during the installation since the driver needs to be installed first. Follow the on-screen prompts to install the USB driver and click 'Finish.' Reboot the computer once prompted.
3. Connect the camera to the computer with the provided USB cable. The camera needs to be turned off before connection, the memory card needs to be inserted in the camera, and there should be pictures on the card. If the memory card is empty, nothing will happen when you try to transfer files.
4. Turn on the camera. Windows will now recognize the device and install it accordingly. You don't need to do anything while this process works. When finished, the computer displays a message stating 'Your new hardware is installed and ready to use.' Click 'Start' and 'My Computer.' Notice that your camera now appears as a drive in 'My Computer.' The assigned drive letter varies from machine to machine and depends on how many other devices you have connected.
5. Double-click on 'Removable disk' to access your photos in 'My Computer.' You can browse your camera as though it were a hard drive or CD-ROM, viewing and deleting pictures through the Windows interface. For more complex photo manipulation, turn off the camera and continue to Step 6.
6. Insert the Pentax CD-ROM again. From the main screen, choose 'ACDSee' and follow the prompts to install the viewing software. Reboot the computer after the installation completes. You can repeat this process to install 'ACD Photostitcher' if desired. The 'Photostitcher' software is required for compiling photos taken using the camera's panoramic shooting mode.
7. Turn on the camera again. 'ACDSee' is now configured to receive files from the Optio 33L. 'ACDSee' opens with thumbnail images of all the images on your camera. You can copy files here or delete unwanted images. Double-click on a file to open the 'ACDSee' editor for photo manipulation.
