How to Create Multiple Accounts on a Windows Computer

1. Click the 'start' menu on your Windows computer system. This will allow you to quickly gain access to the “control panel”. This particular section controls all of the preferences and settings for your computer system. It can also let you view any peripherals that are currently attached to the computer system as well.
2. Select the 'control panel' menu and several options will appear for you to choose from. These options include “security”, “system and maintenance”, and a few others. If you need to uninstall certain programs and applications, then this is precisely the area you should access.
3. Choose the 'add or remove user accounts' under the 'user accounts and family safety' area. For a Windows Vista computer system, you'll need to immediately select the “continue” button under the “user account control” popup. If you do not choose this option, then it will deny you access. The next page that you'll see will show existing user accounts setup on this computer system.
4. Click the 'create a new account' link to get started. It will prompt you to create a specialized name for this brand new user account. Think of a descriptive name that will help to identify the user of this new account. It will also appear on the “welcome screen and the “start” menu of your computer system.
5. Choose to give this new user administrative access or just standard user access. If an adult will be accessing this particular user account, then you may want to give them administrative access. It will allow them to make major computer changes that will affect everyone that uses the computer system. Although they will have full access to features, it will ask them to enter their existing password before going forward. Underage children and teenagers should be set up with a “standard user” account. This will help to prevent them from making any overwhelming changes.
6. Choose the newly created user account by clicking onto its icon when directed to the next page. Select the “create a password” link and create a secure password that will prevent unauthorized access to this account. It is always advisable to create a secure password that will stop others from accessing your personal user account. This also comes in handy if you want to keep your personal documents and emails private.
7. Click the “parental controls” link, if you have younger children or teens that regularly use this computer system. It will give them extremely limited access to certain program files and internet websites when browsing. Most adults that have children in their household choose this feature. When they are unable to keep a watchful eye on them, the computer can be easily setup to restrict access. Setting time limits, monitoring website visits, and even controlling the types of games can be easily done by selecting the “parental controls” option.
