How to Know If You Have a Dual Core Processor
Task Manager
1. Right-click an empty area of the Windows 7 taskbar and select 'Start Task Manager.'
2. Click the 'Performance' tab of the 'Windows Task Manager' window.
3. Look for the number of boxes under 'CPU Usage History.' The number of boxes present corresponds with the number of cores you have on your Windows Starter, Home Basic or Home Premium computer. Two boxes means you have a dual core processor. If you have Windows Professional or Ultimate editions, you could possibly possess more than one physical processors, but that is highly unlikely. If that is the case, then two boxes would indicate two single core processors, rather than one dual core processor.
System Information and Device Manager
4. Click the 'Start' button, right-click 'Computer' and select 'Properties.'
5. Look for your 'Processor' under the 'System' section of the 'System Information' window. If it states 'Core 2 Duo' or 'Dual Core,' then you have a dual core processor. You can also perform an Internet search on the processor name for further information.
6. Click 'Device Manger' in the left pane of the 'System Information' window.
7. Click the arrow next to 'Processors' in the 'Device Manager' window. If you see the same processor name listed twice, then you have a dual core processor.
