How Do I Share My Internet Connection Using the Second Port on My Dual Network Card?
1. Plug one end of the CAT6 network patch cable into the LAN (local area network) port on the modem that provides Internet access. Plug the other end of the CAT6 patch cable into one of the network ports on the computer that has a dual network port card.
2. Click the 'Start' button in the lower left corner of the Windows desktop and then select Control Panel. Click 'View network status and tasks' in the window that appears. Click 'Change adapter settings' in the Network and Sharing Center window.
3. Right-click the network adapter icon that is active (the one that does not have a red X) and select Properties in the menu that appears. Click the Sharing tab in the window that appears and then click the 'Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection' check box.
4. Click the Networking tab and click to clear the Client for Microsoft Networks and File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks boxes. Click 'OK' to save the settings.
5. Plug a crossover CAT6 network patch cable into the second port on the Windows 7 computer. Plug the other end of the crossover CAT6 patch cable into the network port of a second computer that requires Internet access.
6. Click the Start button on the desktop of the second computer and click the Search box. Type 'ncpa.cpl' (without quotes) in the box and tap the 'Enter' key. Right-click on the active icon labeled Local Area Connection and select Properties in the menu that appears.
7. Click Internet Protocol IP Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), followed by the 'Properties' button. Click the 'Obtain an IP address automatically' radio button. Click the 'Obtain DNS Server address automatically.' Click the 'OK' button. Click the 'OK' button in the Local Area Connection Properties window to save the settings.
8. Reboot the second computer.
