What is CCSVCHST.exe?
CcSvcHst.exe and CPU Usage
The first sign of a problem with ccSvcHst.exe is excessive CPU usage. CcSvcHst.exe will take over your system, using as much as 50 percent of your CPU processes. To check CPU usage, press Ctrl/Alt/Del to open Windows Task Manager, then click on the Processes tab. Signs of ccSvcHst.exe problems include slow system performance, lockups and spontaneous restarts.
Error Message
CcSvcHst.exe sometimes generates the error message 'CcSvcHst.exe--Application error. The instruction at 0x059a2df referenced memory at 0x059a2df. The memory could not be written. Click OK to terminate the program.' This error message will generally occur at startup or shutdown. When this message appears at shutdown, you system may hang up.
What Causes CcSvcHst.exe Problems?
CcSvcHst.exe errors are due to a technical flaw in certain versions of Norton software. Norton 2007 is the latest version that has been known to contain the bug. You can try to eliminate the problem by running Symantec's Live Update utility, though that may not resolve the issue.
What to Do If the Problem Still Exists?
If the error continues after running Live Update, uninstall the Norton software through the Windows Add/Remove Programs applet, found in Control Panel. Remove all programs that reference Norton in the program list. Restart your computer, reinstall the Norton program and run Live Update again.Alternatively, you can use the Norton Removal Tool, available for download at Symantec's website. Run the removal application and then reinstall your Norton program.
Other Issues
Your Windows Registry may be corrupted by a ccSvcHst.exe error. Symantec and Microsoft recommend that you run a registry-cleaner program to remove any traces of Norton and related programs from your registry before reinstalling your Norton program. You may want to run a spyware/adware program to check your system for any malicious programs.
