I Can't Embed PDF Files Into One Note
Using Insert
OneNote provides the 'Insert' tab as an accessible way to embed files and printouts when you are working in OneNote. To embed a PDF file, click 'Insert' and find the 'Files' group on the ribbon. By clicking 'Attach File' you will be able to import a link to a PDF file saved on your computer or network. By clicking 'File Printout' you will be able to paste a printout of the PDF you want directly to your OneNote page.
Printing to OneNote
OneNote installs a print driver on your machine, enabling you to 'print' any file you have open directly to OneNote. This is a convenient way to import files as you are viewing them or files that aren't saved to your computer or network. To use this feature, print any PDF. When the print dialog box appears, select 'Send to OneNote' under printer options. A copy of the PDF's contents will be inserted directly to OneNote. Note that this method will not maintain a link to the file's source, so OneNote will not update any changes made to the original file.
Dragging and Dropping
If the PDF file you want to import to OneNote is in an open folder or on the desktop, dragging it to an open OneNote page is another way to import it. OneNote needs to be sized so that it won't fill up your whole screen. Drag a file's icon to an open page and drop it. OneNote will ask whether you want a full printout of the file on the note page or just a link to it.
Updates
If you are using the correct methods for importing files but the program isn't responding, updating software could resolve the issue. Install all updates for Microsoft Office available through Windows Update. Also look for and install any updates for your PDF viewer, which should be available at the manufacturer's website. Make sure that your anti-virus software is up-to-date and run a scan to remove any harmful software that could be interfering with your programs.
Repairing OneNote
Something may be malfunctioning within OneNote that needs repair. Click the Start menu and open the Control Panel. Click 'Programs' followed by 'Programs and Features.' Select Microsoft Office in the list of programs and click 'Change.' Choose the 'Repair' button and click 'Continue.' Once the repair is complete, restart your computer.
