How to Troubleshoot a Simpletech External Hard Drive
1. Open 'My Computer.' If the drive does not appear in the list, this could be because of too little power from one USB port.
2. Unplug the USB cord and plug into a USB port on the back of your desktop's CPU. If you have a laptop, plug directly into a USB port. Do not use a USB hub or docking station.
3. Refresh your 'My Computer' page. You should see the external hard drive listed as Simple Drive PS.
4. If your operating system is Windows Millennium, and you can't see the drive listed, right click on 'My Computer' and choose properties. Click the device manager tab. Click the plus sign next to the disk drives. Double-click the device that shows up. In the settings tab of the page that opens, check the box for 'Removable' and click 'OK.' You will need to reboot your computer and format the drive.
5. In 'My Computer,' double-click the drive icon, and you will be prompted to format. Click 'Yes' and then 'Start.' The format process will vary depending upon drive size. When completed, the drive is ready for use.
