How to Stop System Idle Process in Windows XP

1. Right click on the taskbar and choose 'Task Manager' from the menu. Click on the 'Processes' tab.
2. Click the 'CPU' column to sort the processes by the amount of CPU time they are consuming. The 'System Idle' process should be near the top. If you notice frequent crashes or freezes, you might need to defragment your hard drive to allow the System Idle process to work more efficiently.
3. Click on the 'Start' button and choose 'All Programs' from the menu. Choose 'Accessories' and then 'System Tools.'
4. Choose 'Disk Defragmenter' to open the defragmenter tool. Highlight your hard drive and choose 'Analyze.' Highlight the drive and choose 'Defragment' if the analysis shows that the disk is more than 10% fragmented.
