How to Remotely Install Windows XP
1. Click the Windows 'Start' button and select 'Control Panel.' Double-click the 'Add/Remove Programs' icon. This opens a list of installed programs on the computer. Click the 'Add/Remove Windows Components' to view the Windows applications.
2. Check the box labeled 'Remote Installation Services.' Press the 'OK' button. At this point, the RIS server installs on the server.
3. Double-click 'Administrative Tools' in the Control Panel. Double-click 'Remote Installation Services Setup' to configure the RIS application.
4. Select the drive and directory where Windows XP installation files are copied. This can be a local directory or a network share. Click the 'Next' button.
5. Select 'Respond to client computers requesting service.' This automatically starts installation for client computers on the network. Click the 'Next' button.
6. Add the path of the Windows XP CD. The RIS Server copies these files to the location specified in Step 4. Click the 'Next' button.
7. Enter a friendly name for the installation. This should be a name recognizable for future edits to the configurations. Click the 'Next' button.
8. Click the 'Finish' button at the summary page. The server software is installed at this point. The next time the client machine is booted, it is prompted for installation of Windows XP.
