How to Format Windows 98 Install XP
1. Back up all data that you want to keep. When you format your hard drive, you will lose all data on your Windows 98 computer.
2. Insert the Windows XP installation CD into your disc drive and restart your computer.
3. Press any key on your keyboard to begin Windows XP setup.
4. Press the “Enter” key at the “Welcome to Setup” page.
5. Press the “F8” key to accept the terms of the Windows licensing agreement.
6. Select the Windows 98 partitions on your hard drive by using the arrow keys on your keyboard.
7. Press the “D” key on your keyboard to delete all partitions on your computer. This will remove all information from your hard drive and format your computer.
8. Press the “C” key to make a new partition from the open space on your hard drive.
9. Select the formatting option and file type you would like to use for the new hard drive partition.
10. Press the “Enter” key to format the new partition. The Windows XP installation will begin after the formatting is complete.
11. Follow the instructions to upgrade your Windows 98 computer to Windows XP. You will be prompted for your Windows XP product key during the installation.
