How to Do a Partial Restore for Windows XP
1. Click on the 'Start' button on the desktop.
2. Click on 'Help and Support' from the window that opens.
3. Click on 'Undo Changes to Your Computer with System Restore' under the 'Pick a Task' section of the 'Help' screen.
4. Click on the radio button beside 'Restore my Computer to an Earlier Time' option. Click the 'Next' button at the bottom of the screen.
5. Click a calendar date on the next screen. Choose a date that is displayed in 'bold' numbers, as this is where the restore points for your computer are located. Also choose a date when you are sure the computer was running properly.
6. Choose one of the 'restore points' listed in the second box on the screen. Windows XP routinely sets restore points for the system. Some programs also set a restore point before they install, so you may have several options to choose from. When in doubt about which restore point to choose, pick the 'System Checkpoint.'
7. Click 'Next'; the system will automatically begin restoring your operating system and computer to the state of operations for that time and day.
8. Reboot your system if prompted.
