Error Codes for Windows Live Messenger


Error Code 8004888d, 80040111, 8004015480072efd or 80048820 Extended Code 8004840F
These errors can occur if certain library files are not registered, or if the registration has become corrupt. To re-register these files click 'Start' then 'Run'. Type or copy and paste the following command into the box (omit the quotes and include a space between each filename as printed here) 'C:\Windows\system32\regsvr32 softpub.dll wintrust.dll rsaenh.dll mssip32.dll cryptdlg.dll msxml3.dll dssenh.dll gpkcsp.dll slbcsp.dll sccbase.dll initpki.dll'.After each file is successfully registered there will be a confirmation message. Click 'OK' after each confirmation. To access the 'Run' command in Windows Vista, click 'Start' then 'All Programs' then 'Accessories' and then click 'Run.'
Error Code 80048820 Extended Code 80048416 (see reference 2)
This error code appears if the Microsoft Internet Explorer SSL settings are incorrect. To change the settings, open Internet Explorer, click 'Tools' then 'Internet Options'. Choose the 'Advanced' tab. Scroll down to the Security section. Remove the check mark from the box beside 'Server Certificate Revocation' and ensure that the boxes beside 'Use SSL 2.0' and 'Use SSL 3.0' are both checked. Clicking the boxes will add or remove check marks. Click 'OK' and exit Internet Explorer.
Error code 80048820 Extended Code 80048412(see reference 2)
This error code appears if the computer's time and date are incorrect. To fix this click 'Start' then 'Run' and type or copy and paste the command 'control timedate.cpl' (omit the quotes) then click 'OK.' In the 'Date & Time' tab change the time and date to the correct settings, click the 'Time Zone' tab and confirm that the correct time zone is set. To automatically update your time settings click the 'Internet Time' tab and check the box 'Automatically synchronize with an Internet time server' and add the server name 'time.windows.com' (omit the quotes) to the 'Server' box. Click 'OK' to exit.
Error 81000306 (see reference 2)
Windows Vista users might need to disable the Auto Tuning Networking feature. Click 'Start' then 'All Programs' then 'Accessories'. Right-click 'Command Prompt' and choose to 'Run as Administrator' and click 'Continue.' At the command prompt type or copy and paste the following text (omit the quotes) 'netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled' and then press 'Enter.'
Error 810003c1 (see reference 2)
According a statement posted on the Microsoft website this error relates to the fact that 'Microsoft has discontinued providing Instant Messenger services in certain countries subject to United States sanctions. Details of these sanctions are available from the United States Office of Foreign Assets Control.'
