How to Remove Icon Boxes


Windows XP
1. Close all applications and programs. This is always a good idea when you are altering settings on your computer.
2. Click on an empty spot on your desktop.
3. Scroll down and click 'Arrange Icons.' Scroll over and click 'Lock Web Items on Desktop' if there is a check mark next to it.
4. Click the 'Start' button in the lower-left corner of your desktop. Scroll up and click 'Control Panel.'
5. Select 'System' in the Control Panel window.
6. Click the 'Advanced' tab. Click the 'Settings' button in the Performance section.
7. Remove the check mark next to 'Use drop shadows for icons labels on the desktop.'
8. Click the 'Apply' button and then click the 'OK' button.
Windows Vista
9. Close all applications and programs. This is always a good idea when you are altering settings on your computer.
10. Click the 'Start' button in the lower-left corner of your desktop. Scroll up and right-click 'Computer.' Scroll over and click 'Properties.'
11. Click the 'Advanced' tab. Click the 'Settings' button.
12. Click on the 'Visual Effects' tab. Click the 'Custom' radio button. Scroll down and remove the check mark next to 'Use drop shadows for icons labels on the desktop.'
13. Click the 'Apply' button and then click the 'OK' button.
Windows 7

15. Click the 'Start' button in the lower-left corner of your desktop. Scroll up and right-click 'Computer.' Scroll over and click 'Properties.'
16. Click the 'Advanced system settings' link on the left column.
17. Click the 'Advanced' tab. Click the 'Settings' button.
18. Click on the 'Visual Effects' tab. Click the 'Custom' radio button. Scroll down and remove the check mark next to 'Use drop shadows for icons labels on the desktop.'
19. Click the 'Apply' button and then click the 'OK' button.
