How to Login Remotely to Windows
1. Open the control panel by clicking on the Start menu and then the Control Panel. Double click on 'System' to open the system properties window.
2. Switch to the 'Remote' tab. Check the box labeled 'allow users to connect remotely to this computer.' Click the 'OK' button to save your changes and exit the menu.
3. Write down your IP address. Your computer will need a constant Internet connection; if your IP address changes you will need to note it every time you restart your computer or refresh your connection. Find your IP Address by going to the Start menu, clicking on 'All Programs,' then on 'Accessories' and then on 'Command Prompt.' That should open a black box. At the cursor, type: ipconfig and press enter. Find your IP address in the list of information and write it down, then close the command prompt. If you have an IPv4 and IPv6 address, choose the IPv4; the IP address is in the format '#.#.#.#' where each number ranges from 0 to 255. Your computer is now set up for remote access.
4. Log-in to the remote computer. Open the 'Start' menu, click on 'All Programs,' then click on 'Accessories' and the on 'Remote Desktop Connection.' This will open the remote desktop connection window.
5. Enter the IP address of the computer you wish to connect to (the host computer) in the box labeled 'Computer' and click the 'Connect' button. Your computer (the client) will attempt to access the host computer and if successful will bring you to the log-in screen.
6. Log-in in to the host computer when the log-in screen appears. You can close the connection at any time by clicking on the X in the upper right corner.
