How to Exit FreeCell Without Losing the Game
Save the FreeCell Game by Shutting Down the Computer
1. Keep FreeCell open. Do not close it.
2. Click on 'Start' at the main operating system menu.
3. Choose 'Shut Down.'
Salvage the FreeCell Game Without Shutting Down
4. Press Ctrl-Alt-Del.
5. Choose 'FreeCell' from the Windows Task Manager list.
6. Click on 'End Task' once 'FreeCell' is selected.
7. Choose 'No' when FreeCell asks if the user wants to quit.
8. Shut down FreeCell. In a few seconds a pop-up window will state that FreeCell is not responding. Windows will then ask if the user wants to shut down the application, in this case FreeCell. Select 'Yes.'
Rescue the Freecell Game After You Exit the Program
9. Click on 'Start' from the main operating system menu.
10. Select 'Run.'
11. Type 'regedit' in the menu and press enter.
12. Locate FreeCell in the Registry. On the left pane, click on the plus symbol next to the folder 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER.' Select the plus symbol next to the 'Software' folder. Choose the plus symbol next to the 'Windows' folder. Click on the plus symbol next to the 'Current Version' folder. Select the plus symbol next to the 'Applets' folder and open the 'FreeCell' folder.
13. Change the 'Losses' and 'Lost' totals. Right-click on the 'Lost' file in the right panel. Choose the 'Modify' option from the menu. Change the four paired numbers to '00 00 00 00.' Repeat the same process for the 'Losses' file.
14. Exit the Registry program. Choose 'File' from the main menu and select 'Exit.'
